Founded by Dr Tan It Koon, PhD, MCB, CChem FRSC, FSNIC, FACB, FRCPath, PPA, PBM (Founding and Past APFCB President), APFCB is a scientific organisation committed to promote a variety of scientific and educational programs for Clinical Biochemists of the South-east Asia region. With a total of 18 full members and 6 affiliate members, this is one of the largest organisation of laboratarians in the region.
The Asian & Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry (APFCB) was formally established in 1982. Dr Tan It Koon, the founding member, became the first president of the APFCB. From its founding in the early 80s to 1999, the APFCB saw its membership grow from 5 to 12. In 2010, the federation's name was changed from the Asian and Pacific Federation of Clinical Biochemistry to the Asia-Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine. Currently the APFCB has 18 full member associations, 6 affiliate members and 14 corporate members. In 2010, a Memorandum of Understanding and Working Agreement was signed between the IFCC and APFCB, recognising the APFCB as an IFCC Regional Federation. On 1st January 2018, Prof Sunil Sethi became the first APFCB regional federation representative on the IFCC Executive Board.
The APFCB executive board comprises the strong team at-helm committed to take forward the work initiated by its founding members. The EB along-with various committees like Scientific, Educational, Laboratory Management and Communication work as team and disseminate knowledge and showcase the expertise of various members of APFCB.
The Asia-Pacific Federation for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine (APFCB) plans to collaborate with other international organizations, support its members through scientific and educational endeavours, and provide a series of congresses, conferences, and focused meetings for laboratory medicine specialists to meet and present original findings and best practice.
In the 21st century networking forms a critical feature in development of professional bodies, development and upscaling of individual careers.Providing a correct platform for networking is always a desired characteristic of any website and APFCB website does just that.
